PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance is not an issue of talent. It is not an issue of time. It is about finishing. Talent provides hope for accomplishment, but perseverance guarantees it.

A Life That Counts

If you're not doing something with your life, then it doesn't matter how long you live. If you're doing something with your life, then it doesn't matter how short your life may be. A life is not measured by years lived, but by its usefulness. If you are giving, loving, serving, helping, encouraging, and adding value to others, then you're living a life that counts!

Be an Architect of Change!

One of my female role models is Maria Shriver! As California’s first lady, Maria Shriver is on a mission to change the world. But she has no intention of doing it alone. She seeks to inspire others to become architects of change. As the wife of the 38th Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver is a trailblazer. An award-winning journalist and producer, best-selling author and mother of four, Maria has transformed the office of First Lady by approaching it not simply as a role, but as a job with real purpose and a platform to make a difference. Shriver has used her voice to advocate on behalf of women, the working poor, the intellectually disabled and families struggling with Alzheimer’s. She has created groundbreaking programs and initiatives that educate, enlist, empower, connect, and honor people who are what she calls “Architects of Change” in their own lives and in the lives of others. I have already become an architect of change. Here are 10 ways that YOU can become an architect of change too.

1. Find your own unique voice and listen to what it’s saying.

2. Empower a young woman. Become a mentor by connecting with a young woman in your workplace, neighborhood or place of worship. Find small ways to reach out, listen and support her.

3. Act locally to make a difference globally. Make informed choices about what you buy and consume, as well as how you dispose of items. Reduce your carbon footprint, use energy and water responsibly and green your life.

4. Advocate for a cause that you care deeply about. Your time and expertise could help make a difference as a volunteer, counselor or board member.

5. Invest in women entrepreneurs. Join Team Maria in the WE Invest/Kiva partnership to give women the tools to start or expand their own businesses. For as little as $25, you can "Become a lender. Change a life."

6. Speak up & ask for what you need. If you need to take time off of your job to care for a child or parent, ask for it. Families need more flexible work schedules, better child care policies and changes in family and medical leave. We need to use our voices collectively to improve workplace policies.

7. Engage your children in the world. As a mother, get your children involved at a young age in seeing the world through the eyes of others, respecting diversity, developing empathy and understanding the gift of giving back.

8. Donate to nonprofits that help women. Instead of purchasing a birthday, anniversary or holiday gift for family, friends and colleagues, make a donation in someone’s name to a nonprofit that works on improving the lives of women and girls.

9. Be an informed citizen. Educate yourself about the world you live in, share your knowledge, educate others and ignite a conversation.

10. Invite 10 of your friends to join The Women’s Conference online community at WWW.WOMENSCONFERENCE.ORG -- The Home for Architects of Change.

Hey'all, PAULA DEEN here!

Much like Paula’s life, my life seems to revolve around food also. Does yours too? If you’re anything like me, when I entertain it seems that everyone always ends up in the kitchen watching me cook. That was a prerequisite when Tom and I were house hunting ---- it had to have an open, breezy kitchen to entertain in! Having my family and friends over creates memories of love and well…. food! I have spent the last many years watching Paula Deen on The Food Network loving her simple comfort food recipes, along with her motherly and loving manner of cooking. For generations she and her sons have proven that they are all about the family and gathering them around the dinner table. Paula had a hard life early on with virtually no money to her name. Going from door-to-door in Georgia selling lunch bags, she slowly built a name for herself and has since then turned herself into a media empire. With best-selling cookbooks, top-rated TV shows, a bi-monthly magazine, a housewares line, a furniture line and collaborating with the Helping Hungry Homes Program the “Deen” name is surely a household phenomenom. She is a true role model for me showing me that it IS humanly possible to go from nothing to something with nothing but sheer guts and will power to your name. Perhaps one reason why I admire her so much is that she reminds me of my own mother. Thank you, Paula and Mom, for showing me that hard work DOES pay off!

William Shakespeare wrote "To thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou cans't not then be false to any man."  This is a wise statement that best applies to those who have shown us that being true to yourself never goes out of style!

How Miss Piggy Stays in Shape!

The object of exercise is to achieve your beauty aspirations without perspiration.

Exercise caution.
Every young lady should include a regular television sports program in her schedule.
I find that a vigorous round of shopping (at least one store an hour) is both stimulating and refreshing.
Her secret is a simple series of aerobique movements. We exercise all the time. We run when we are late for lunch date. We stretch when we hail a taxi. We twist when we wave our hand to a friend. We bend if we must examine someone's diamond ring. All other exercise methods require you to perform difficult movements which are unnatural and which you will never use in daily life.

A few words of advice from Joel Osteen:
Sometimes when God is doing a work in our lives, things can get a little uncomfortable. We may encounter people who are hard to get along with or have circumstances that seem beyond our control. When this happens, instead of complaining, getting sour, or trying to change everything around you, why don't you look deep inside and say, "Lord, thank You for doing a work in me." See, I've learned that God is more interested in changing me than He is in changing my circumstances. If I choose to stay sour because I'm not getting my way or discouraged because things aren't happening on my time table, that's going to keep me right where I am.
If you want to see change, if you want to see God open up new doors, the key is to bloom right where you're planted. You can't wait until everything gets better before you decide to have a good attitude. You have to be the best that you can be right where you are. When you bloom where you're planted, you're allowing God to work in you, and He will be faithful to complete what He's started in you!
